Learning to Listen
In a world of constant notifications, buzzing pockets, and fragmented attention, we face a question that cuts to the heart of our spiritual lives: are we truly listening? Drawing from the story of the young Samuel in 1 Samuel 3, we explore what it looks like when God speaks and we are not yet trained to recognize His voice. Samuel heard something real, something urgent, and yet he kept running to the wrong source until he was guided to simply say, 'Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.' That posture, open, still, and expectant, is precisely what so many of us have lost in the noise of daily life. The message is not just about hearing God in dramatic moments, but about cultivating the kind of attentiveness that allows us to catch what He is saying through His word, through prayer, and through the people He places in our lives. The uncomfortable truth is that God may already be speaking, and we may be too distracted to notice. What would change in our faith journey if we committed to even one hour of genuine, undistracted listening each week?
